Existing information systems need to be migrated to this new architecture (BISC-AIS), requiring a lot of effort over a long period. Borland and M&I/PARTNERS will use the Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI See CMM. (R)) framework for optimizing the upgrading of the information systems within this one overall architecture.

CMMI is a best practice model to improve application development and integration through process optimization, which will enable NC3A to develop a secure and effective framework, based on best practices, for devising and implementing new software.

"NATO is one of the most important military organizations in the world and we look forward to helping them maintain very high standards for security in system development," said Bill Curtis, Chief Process Officer at Borland. "Their decision to work with us on this important project is a vote of confidence for both Borland's Process Optimization Practice and M&I/PARTNERS' project and implementation management skills. This project will enable us to demonstrate the real-world benefits that CMMI-based improvements can bring to an organization like NATO."
