Borland and M&I/PARTNERS Support NATO With Process Optimization Services; NATO's Consultation, Command and Control Agency Looks to CMMI(R) to Optimize Software Engineering and Security Processes.

AMSTELVEEN, Netherlands -- Borland Software Corporation (NASDAQ:BORL), the global leader for Software Delivery Optimization(TM), and independent management consultancy M&I/PARTNERS have secured a contract to appraise and optimize NATO's software delivery infrastructure. The purpose of the cooperation is to assess NATO's existing infrastructure and develop a plan for optimizing the organization's software engineering, software acquisition, systems integration and information security processes.

Specifically, Borland and M&I/PARTNERS will support the NATO Consultation, Command and Control Agency (NC3A) during its Functional Services Technical Integration Framework project (NATO FAS Integration Project). NC3A has developed a new architecture for its information systems called Bilateral Strategic Comment (BISC) Automated Information System (AIS). Existing information systems need to be migrated to this new architecture (BISC-AIS), requiring a lot of effort over a long period. Borland and M&I/PARTNERS will use the Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI(R)) framework for optimizing the upgrading of the information systems within this one overall architecture.

CMMI is a best practice model to improve application development and integration through process optimization, which will enable NC3A to develop a secure and effective framework, based on best practices, for devising and implementing new software.
