Borland Helps Aegis Mortgage IT Respond More Quickly to Business Needs; Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) Initiative Uses Borland(R) Together(R) Visual Modeling Solution to Increase Development Team Productivity.

CUPERTINO, Calif. -- Borland Software Corporation (NASDAQ:BORL), the global leader for Software Delivery Optimization, today announced Aegis Mortgage Corporation, a top 40 mortgage lender in the U.S., has deployed Borland(R) Together(R) to give the company the strategic edge it needed to establish an SOA and create a software development implementation discipline that would meet Aegis' short- and long-term business goals. Today, Aegis development team members using the Borland Together visual modeling solution are more productive and experience significantly faster development.

Aegis selected Borland Together over competing solutions from IBM because Borland's solution supported both the company's commitment to UML and the .NET platform and was process-agnostic. In addition, the Borland solution most effectively supported the company's commitment to SOA, the foundation that would enable Aegis to grow more dynamically.

It was very difficult to show both composition and behavior by just writing code; we had to have a way to model it. Aegis teams of business analysts and architects use Borland Together Designer to create analysis patterns and Borland Together Architect to complete the domain and design models. Those teams then move approved architectural baselines to developers, who use Borland Together Developer for Visual Studio .NET to assign the domain models to specific technologies and decide how to implement the solution. However, when the developers start working on a solution, they now can leverage a library of patterns, which include specific steps, participants, situations, and solutions, to provide competitive advantage and reduce development time and cost. For example, at Aegis, a loan applicant pattern describes in a visual way both the composition and behavior of the name and contact information.

The growing number of patterns created using Borland Together serve as templates for developers to customize and apply, so they do not have to begin from scratch. This saves Aegis development team members time because they can immediately understand what they have without having to navigate through code. They simply open the code, see the pictures and view sequence diagrams to better understand what is going on with a specific function call instead of going through a cryptic process.

"Using Borland Together, what has been most beneficial to development team members," according to Certuche, "is improving the design of existing code, or refactoring, because team members can open code that has been written by someone else, easily understand it, and very quickly start organizing and refactoring that code to make it work for a new project. At the same time, they can start documenting the code by having the proper sequence diagrams. I estimate this saves approximately 80% of their time."
