First J2EE(TM) Application Server Report from CSIRO Helps Reduce

Risks and Costs of Java(TM) Application Server Selection

Borland Software Corporation (Nasdaq NM: BORL) today announced that the Borland(R) AppServer(TM) 4.5.1 has been given the highest rating in quantitative testing and the highest qualitative rating in the just released Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO) Middleware Technology Evaluation series review of Java(TM) 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE(TM)) application servers.

Quantitative results

The quantitative tests involve performance and stress testing in identical deployment environments.

Qualitative results

The qualitative terms compare the products by their feature set. The table below summarizes the qualitative research results, with five as the highest score and one as the lowest. Borland AppServer achieved a maximum rating in four of six qualitative evaluation criteria.

How the J2EE application servers were analyzed

The CSIRO report provides detailed analysis, evaluation and comparison of six application server technologies -- Borland, IBM, Fujitsu, SilverStream, BEA and JBoss (open source). Test applications were built so that CSIRO could understand the products' capabilities.
