Boris: I'll beat crime.


LONDON'S new mayor Boris Johnson Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson (born 19 June 1964, New York City)[2] is a British Conservative Party politician, journalist and former editor of The Spectator.  pledged to lead a fight back against violent crime in the capital as he signed the declaration of acceptance of his new role yesterday.

Mr Johnson, who defeated Labour's Ken Livingstone Kenneth Robert Livingstone (born June 17, 1945) is a British politician who became Mayor of London on the creation of the post in 2000.

He was previously Leader of the Greater London Council from 1981 until it was abolished in 1986.
 by six points to become mayor, said that the main issue facing London was the "tragically self destructive" behaviour of some of its young children.

He also pledged to make good on campaign promises to build affordable homes, protect gardens against development, improve bus services and crack down on minor crime on public transport.

Describing the boy's death as "tragic", Mr Johnson said: "I think this problem of kids growing up without boundaries and getting lost in tragic and self-destructive choices is the number one issue we face in this city.

"It is the job of me as Mayor to lead the fight back against it, and that is what I want to do. I hope you will all join me in doing it."

Without giving full details of his intentions, Mr Johnson said he would also "reform and improve" the congestion charge on drivers entering central London.
