Borders moves back downtown.


Borders Books and Music will return to lower Manhattan Lower Manhattan is the southernmost part of the island of Manhattan, the main island and center of business and government of the City of New York. Lower Manhattan is generally defined as the area delineated on the north by Chambers Street, on the west by the Hudson River (North  next spring, filling the void left by their old World Trade Center store. The new Borders store will encompass 33,000 SF at 100 Broadway, encompassing all of the building's retail space on two floors.

"We have been very eager to re-build a Downtown branch. 100 Broadway is a magnificent property, right in the heart of the city's most vibrant financial district," said David Rayner, Border's regional director of real estate.

Because of incentives, Borders was able to secure what broker Pittarelli called "a very cost effective rent."

"We have been actively dealing with both state and federal agencies to arrange for financial assistance on behalf of Borders," said Pittarelli of retail brokerage Madison HGCD.

Borders has two other Manhattan stores, 461 Park Ave. and 550 Second Ave. The lower. Manhattan store will be open for business by fall of next year.
