Borders Group Names Michael A. Tam Senior Vice President, Marketing.


ANN ARBOR Ann Arbor, city (1990 pop. 109,592), seat of Washtenaw co., S Mich., on the Huron River; inc. 1851. His appointment is effective Aug. 23 and Tam will report to Mike Spinozzi, executive vice president, marketing, merchandising and logistics.

At Borders, Tam will be responsible for developing and executing overall brand strategy, leading brand stewardship and the development and implementation of innovative marketing tools and campaigns for all domestic Borders Group brands and formats. Tam has more than 25 years of marketing experience with major retailers and consumer brands. He most recently served as executive vice president and chief marketing officer for apparel retailer American Eagle Outfitters, Inc., where he was responsible for all areas of marketing including brand strategy and positioning, market and consumer research, visual marketing, customer relationship management and strategic retail planning and promotions, among other functions. Prior to joining American Eagle Outfitters, Tam served as executive vice president, Nordstrom Product Group, Nordstrom Inc. At Nordstrom, Tam was responsible for the business strategy and profitability of all Nordstrom exclusive brands and products, including management of all aspects of the merchandising, design, and marketing of the brands. He also held top marketing posts with Starbucks Corp., where he served as vice president, retail marketing, and at McDonald's Corp., where he served as senior vice president and chief marketing officer, Tokyo.
