Borders Books & Music(R) will open a 20,000-square-foot store in Avondale, Ariz., in October 2003. The store will be located at the intersection of McDowell Road and 99th Avenue in the Gateway Pavilions shopping center shopping center, a concentration of retail, service, and entertainment enterprises designed to serve the surrounding region. The modern shopping center differs from its antecedents—bazaars and marketplaces—in that the shops are usually amalgamated into  and will offer Avondale and greater Phoenix residents a comfortable place to explore a vast selection of book, music, DVD DVD: see digital versatile disc.

"The product selection will be specially tailored to the interests of local residents, and we'll offer corporate discounts to schools, libraries and businesses in the area. Free events like lectures, author signings, musical performances, children's activities and 'Benefit Days' that support local charities will be held throughout the year."
