NetWorld+Interop 2005 - BorderWare Technologies Inc., the leading provider of messaging security solutions, today announced the release of MXtreme(TM) Mail Firewall version 5.0. MXtreme is designed to protect an organization's email infrastructure against blended attacks and zero day exploits that can bring down a corporate email system. This latest release offers customers the superior security they expect from MXtreme, coupled with enhanced functionality in four key areas - performance, policy enforcement and management, content control and ease-of-use.

The release of MXtreme 5.0 follows quickly on the heels of several complementary and strategic developments at BorderWare that position the company at the forefront of the broader IP communications security market. In January, industry veteran, Tim Leisman, took over as president and CEO, bringing a proven track record of turning companies into high-growth market leaders. This was followed by the strategic OEM licensing agreement with 3Com for the 3Com Email Firewall "Powered by BorderWare".

Performance

Email is business critical and time sensitive. As a result, delays in processing due to spikes or increasing volumes are unacceptable. MXtreme 5.0 features a 30 percent throughput increase in real-world deployments with all features enabled. For customers, this translates to significant added value. By upgrading to version 5.0, customers are able to process increasing email volumes using their current infrastructure rather than having to make additional investments.

Policy Management and Content Control

As email security management becomes more complex, customers require full integration with directory services in order to centralize management of user information. MXtreme 5.0 includes further integration into corporate directory services enhancing its ability to now provide real-time directory lookups. This additional functionality allows any update on the directory server to be automatically recognized by MXtreme 5.0, lessening the burden on administrators by removing the need to update disparate systems on a continuous basis.

In addition to policy management, organizations across multiple vertical industries must ensure that email is managed in accordance with regulatory requirements. To address this, MXtreme 5.0 features enhanced content filtering functionality and flexibility, dramatically increasing the customer's ability to restrict content of any form including objectionable words or phrases, offensive content and/or confidential information.

One of the key content management enhancements in MXtreme 5.0 is the Objectionable Content Filtering (OCF) list. This list is end user manageable, and can be updated and customized to meet the specific needs of any organization. Rules can also be applied to both inbound and outbound messages stopping unwanted content from entering an organization and prohibiting sensitive information, such as personal health information (PHI) for HIPAA, from leaving an organization. MXtreme 5.0 also includes the ability to customize the lists in accordance with industry-specific compliance requirements such as HIPAA, Sarbanes Oxley and PIPEDA.
