Borden Chemical, Resolution Performance Products LLC and Resolution Specialty Materials LLC completed their previously announced combination to form Hexion Specialty Chemicals, said to be the world's largest producer of thermosetting resins. Hexion also includes Bakelite Bakelite (bā`kəlīt) [for its inventor, L. H. Baekeland], synthetic thermosetting resin. It has been widely used both alone, to form whole objects, and in combination with other materials, as a laminate or a surface coating. AG, which Borden Chemical acquired in late April. Hexion is owned by affiliates of the private investment firm Apollo Management, L.P.
