HEALTH experts have launched a new plan to tackle alcohol abuse and its effects on people in North Tyneside.

The multi-agency strategy, the first of its kind in the area, aims to reduce poor health, crime and anti-social behaviour, and promote sensible drinking.

It has been launched by North Tyneside Strategic Partnership, which is made up of representatives from North Tyneside Primary Care Trust (PCT), North Tyneside Council, Northumbria Police and other voluntary organisations.

North Tyneside PCT's director of public health, Professor Vivien Hollyoak said: "The strategic partnership is implementing actions and initiatives to reduce and prevent the impact of alcohol."
