A WORKER at the Royal Australian Mint The Royal Australian Mint (RAM) is situated in the Australian federal capital city of Canberra, in the suburb of Deakin. It was officially opened by the Duke of Edinburgh on 22 February 1965.  stole thousands of pounds worth of coins - by hiding them in his boots.

 Grzeskowiac, 48, is accused of stealing pounds 65,000 worth of $2 coins.

He was caught after trying to exchange mountains of shiny coins for notes.

Because the workers' steel toe-capped boots always set off metal detectors at the mint in Canberra, they were not asked to remove them during random screening.

Grzeskowiac was granted bail at Canberra magistrates court and ordered to appear again later this month.
