Boost for charity, by George; SYMPHONY HALL.


CITY charities were waving the flag today to celebrate after receiving the proceeds of a sell-out St George's Day St. George's Day is celebrated by several nations of whom Saint George is the patron saint, including England, Portugal, Georgia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Republic of Macedonia and the Gora. For England, St. George's Day also marks its National Day.  concert at Birmingham's Symphony Hall There are a number of concert halls known as Symphony Hall. Among the best known are:
  • Symphony Hall in Allentown, Pennsylvania in the United States
  • Symphony Hall, Birmingham
  • Symphony Hall, Boston
  • Symphony Hall, Phoenix
  • Symphony Hall, Springfield
. In all pounds 2,500 was raised at the bash organised on April 23 by the Saint George's Day Association.

It has now been shared equally between the Birmingham Air Raids Remembrance Association (BARRA) and Birmingham Focus on Blindness who received pounds 1,250 each. Carl Chinn Professor Carl Stephen Alfred Chinn MBE (born 6 September, 1956) is a historian, writer, radio presenter, magazine editor, newspaper columnist, media personality, local celebrity, and famous Brummie, whose working life has been devoted to the study and popularisation of the city of , who is one of the St. George's Association committee, said: "BARRA has campaigned vigorously for a lasting and fitting memorial to the victims of the Blitz on Birmingham. "That objective has recently been achieved and now the organisation will concentrate on educating young people about life in England during the war.

"Birmingham Focus on Blindness was established in 1846 and has provided services and support to those with sight impairment for over 150 years. Its aim is to enable those with sight impairment to lead full and independent lives with the hope that this support will enhance the quality of their lives. " Plans are already well under way for next year's concert which will take place on Sunday, April 23
