NEWBERG - The Creswell Fury split their first two games at the Tri-State Championships 18-and-under softball tournament Saturday, losing to Coos Bay 8-1 and defeating the Salem Vikings 9-1.

Creswell (5-5 overall) had just two hits in the loss to Coos Bay, both in the fourth inning when the Fury scored their only run. Dani Taylor singled and later scored on a single by Betty Lou McClellan.

In the victory over Salem, Kaylea Colley was 2-for-3 with a triple, double and RBI, Katie Plumb was 1-for-3 with three RBIs and Taylor was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Kayley Saxon gave up just three hits and struck out six.
