Booming economy sends syphilis rates skyrocketing in China.

New Delhi New Delhi (dĕl`ē), city (1991 pop. 294,149), capital of India and of Delhi state, N central India, on the right bank of the Yamuna River. , November 4 (ANI): China's rapidly developing economy is the driving force behind boosting number of syphilis cases over the past decade in the country, a senior public health official has said.

Xiang-Sheng Chen said the country witnessed a tenfold increase in the sexually transmitted disease sexually transmitted disease (STD) or venereal disease, term for infections acquired mainly through sexual contact. Five diseases were traditionally known as venereal diseases: gonorrhea, syphilis, and the less common granuloma inguinale,  that was virtually eradicated in the 1960s.
