: divorced, middle-aged, tired of his job, in a relationship with a woman much younger than he is. His only child is about to attend college. As his fiftieth birthday draws ever nearer, Boomer yearns to break away from the stereotypes of his generation and radically reinvent himself. Quitting his job, he moves to New Orleans New Orleans (ôr`lēənz –lənz, ôrlēnz`), city (2006 pop. 187,525), coextensive with Orleans parish, SE La., between the Mississippi River and Lake Pontchartrain, 107 mi (172 km) by water from the river mouth; founded  to pursue his dreams, playing zydeco zydeco (zī`dĭkō'), American musical form originating among the African-American Creoles of Louisiana. Drawing on elements of traditional Cajun music as well as jazz, country and western, and blues, it is characterized by French lyrics,  on his accordion. But what awaits him in The Big Easy will pull him even further into his mire mire (mer) [Fr.] one of the figures on the arm of an ophthalmometer whose images are reflected on the cornea; measurement of their variations determines the amount of corneal astigmatism.
