Boole & Babbage Solidifies Relationship With BellSouth Telecommunications; MainView to Continue Managing BellSouth's Entire IMS Complex.

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 24, 1997--Boole & Babbage, Inc. (NASDAQ:BOOL) today announced that it has secured a renewed contract with BellSouth Telecommunications, which services customers in nine Southeastern states.

Under the terms of the contract, Boole & Babbage will ensure ongoing maintenance and availability of product enhancements for the MainView(TM) systems management solution, which BellSouth uses to manage its business-critical IMS and DB2 computing systems.

According to Mike Bunyard, senior marketing director, systems management, at Boole & Babbage, "Boole & Babbage has a track record for maintaining long term commitments with customers and continually solving real business problems with pragmatic solutions like MainView."

Originally, BellSouth needed to improve performance and increase availability of its IMS and DB2 applications, while reducing overall processing costs. MainView's Single System Image (SSI) technology made it possible for BellSouth IT Operations to view up to 64 IMS control regions and 40 DB2 subsystems from a single screen.

In addition, MainView simplified the performance management process for BellSouth IMS/DB2 staff by identifying problems in particular regions or subsystems and automating corrective actions, all from a central console. As a result, the staff has been able to reduce computer outages and increase availability of critical applications used by BellSouth business centers, including customer billing and new telephone service.
