VILLAGERS in Balsall Common Balsall Common (often known as Balsall Compton) is a large village and one of the larger rural settlements in the Metropolitan Borough of Solihull, situated seven miles (eleven km) west of Coventry and 13 miles (21 km) to the east of Birmingham, to which it serves as a  have welcomed the opening of a long- awaited new library.

Planners hope a new car park will help to solve the village's parking problems.

More books, computers and a children's area are featured in the new building which will also offer free internet access, careers sessions for young people and summer reading groups for children.

Consultation and building work for the new library has taken about three years.

Jo Hand, north area manager with Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council is the local council for the Metropolitan Borough of Solihull, West Midlands, England. The council's offices are based in the town of Solihull. , said: "The new building is about three times the size of the old one and provides a more flexible, bright and attractive environment.

"We are very excited to be able to offer these improved services and facilities, and we hope that customers, new and old, will come in and have a look around.

"A larger car park has also been built at the back of the library which we hope will help to resolve the parking problems in the village."
