Booker shortlist revealed.


THE shortlist for the Man Booker Prize for Fiction was announced yesterday - with no place for Salman Rushdie, Ian McEwan Ian McEwan CBE (born June 21, 1948) is an English novelist. Biography
McEwan was born in Aldershot in England and spent much of his childhood in East Asia, Germany and North Africa, where his army officer father was posted.
 or J M Coetzee.

The six books in the running are: The Sea by John Banville, Arthur & George by Julian Barnes, A Long Long Way by Sebastian Barry Sebastian Barry (b. 5 July 1955, Dublin) is an Irish playwright, novelist, and poet. He is the son of the late Irish actress Joan O'Hara.

Educated at Trinity College, Dublin, his academic posts have included Honorary Fellow in Writing at the University of Iowa (1984) and
, Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro, The Accidental by Ali Smith and On Beauty by Zadie Smith.

Chair of the judges John Sutherland said the long list had been unusually good.

The winner of the pounds 50,000 prize will be announced on October 10.

Rushdie, McEwan and Coetzee are all former winners
