VBSCRIPT (Visual Basic SCRIPT) A scripting language from Microsoft. A subset of Visual Basic, VBScript is widely used on the Web for both client processing within a Web page and server-side processing in Active Server Pages (ASPs).  in a Nutshell, Second Edition

Visual Basic Scripting Edition (VBScript) from Microsoft is used by developers in four main areas: server-side web applications using Active Server Pages (World-Wide Web, programming) Active Server Pages - (ASP) A scripting environment for Microsoft Internet Information Server in which you can combine HTML, scripts and reusable ActiveX server components to create dynamic web pages.

(ASP), client-side web scripts using Internet Explorer, code behind Outlook forms, and the automation of repetitive tasks using Windows Script Host A facility within Windows that executes ActiveX scripting languages including Microsoft's own VBScript and JScript, as well as PerlScript, PScript and others. The scripts can be run from the desktop using the WSCRIPT.EXE program or from a command line using CSCRIPT.EXE.  (WSH See Windows Script Host. ). In spite of the popularity and utility of the language, the documentation that accompanies VBScript can be described as lean, at best. VBScript in a Nutshell, Second Edition,' by Paul Lomax, Matt Childs, and Ron Petrusha (O'Reilly), remedies this documentation vacuum by delivering a current and complete reference for programmers and system administers who want to develop effective scripts in any of these four areas. Completely updated for VBScript 5.6, WSH 5.6, and ASP 3.0, the new edition of IVBScript in a Nutshell" includes introductory chapters to help readers keep current with the significant changes since the first edition was published. A new chapter introduces the Windows Script Component for creating binary COM (1) (Computer Output Microfilm) Creating microfilm or microfiche from the computer. A COM machine receives print-image output from the computer either online or via tape or disk and creates a film image of each page.  components, and an appendix documents the Script Encoder. The main part of the book is a comprehensive alphabetical reference to the VBScript language and the Scripting Runtime Library.

PHP (PHP Hypertext Preprocessor) A scripting language used to create dynamic Web pages. With syntax from C, Java and Perl, PHP code is embedded within HTML pages for server side execution.  Cookbook

The "PHP Cookbook" contains a unique and extensive collection of solutions and best practices for everyday PHP programming dilemmas. For each problem addressed in the book, there's a solution--a short, focused piece of code that programmers can insert directly into their applications. But the book goes beyond cut-and-paste code. Like any good cookbook, it expounds theory and offers clear explanations of why the code works, so readers can learn to adapt the problem-solving techniques to similar situations. The recipes in the IPHP IPHP Institute for Public Health Practice (Iowa City, IA)  Cookbook' range from simple tasks, such as sending a database, query and fetching URLS, to entire programs that demonstrate complex tasks, such as printing HTML tables and generating bar charts. This book contains more than 250 recipes on the following topics: Working with basic data types, including strings, numbers, dates and times, and arrays--PHP building blocks, such as variables, functions, classes, and objects--Web programming, including forms, database access, and XML--Useful features such as regular expressions, encryption and security, graphics, internationalization and localization "Internationalization" redirects here. This term may also refer to the establishment of an independent free city.

In computing, Internationalization and localization are means of adapting computer software for non-native environments, especially other nations and cultures.

Understanding the Linux Kernel, Second Edition

The new edition of 'Understanding the Linux Kemel" has been updated to cover version 2.4 of the kernel, which is quite different from version 2.2: the virtual memory system is entirely new, support for multiprocessor systems is improved, and whole new classes of hardware devices have been added. The kernel code has been significantly enlarged. "The 2.2 version occupies about 58 megabytes of disk space, while the 2.4 version occupies about 144 megabytes. In order to list all of the code of the 2.4 version, we would need more than forty books like 'Understanding the Linux Kernel,' without commenting on it!" While refraining from listing all the code, the authors explore eac significant new feature in detail. Other topics in the book include: Memory management including file buffering, process swapping, and Direct Memory Access (DMA (1) (Digital Media Adapter) See digital media hub.

(2) (Document Management Alliance) A specification that provides a common interface for accessing and searching document databases.
)--The Virtual Filesystem and the Second Extended Filesystem--Process creation and scheduling--Signals, interrupts, and the essential interfaces to device drivers--Timing--Synchronization in the kernel-Interprocess Communication (IPC (1) (InterProcess Communication) The exchange of data between one program and another either within the same computer or over a network. It implies a protocol that guarantees a response to a request. )--Program execution The second edition of 'Understanding the Linux Kemel' will acquaint readers with all the inner workings of Linux, but is more than just an academic exercise.
