Bono festival appearance still on cards.

ORGANISERS of this weekend's Sesiwn Fawr yesterday refused to rule out an appearance by U2 frontman Bono - despite the star's spokesman claiming he would definitely not attend.

Last week the Daily Post revealed the Irish singer was discussing a secret appearance at the Dolgellau festival.

One of Sesiwn Fawr's founders Ywain Myfyr said talks were continuing.

Mike Peters, the Dyserth-based singer of The Alarm, is a close friend of the Dublin singer and will be appearing at the event.

Mr Myfyr said: ``If he comes he'll be more than welcome. We'll just have to wait and see, but it is something that we have discussed with Mike Peters.''

Mike Peters was unavailable for comment last night.

Sesiwn Fawr organiser Andrew Evans said: ``We recently had a chat when Bono's name was mentioned. I don't want to attract people here on the back of his name because I can't say that he is coming. We'll know on Sunday.''

But a spokeswoman for Bono's publicists, RMP Publicity, said the star would ``definitely not'' be appearing at Dolgellau.

She added: ``The rumours are not true.'' Definitely appearing at Sesiwn Fawr on Sunday afternoon with his latest band, Los Pacaminos, will be former chart-topping pop singer Paul Young.

Mr Myfyr said: ``Paul is confirmed as appearing even though he will be in California right up until the start of Sesiwn Fawr. `` He added there was a possibility that Queen guitarist Brian May may appeat. And actor Mathew Rhys will be helping out relatives with Cwmni Cig Maethlon by serving burgers.
