Bonded Fibre Fabric expands facilities.

As a result of steady customer demand, nonwovens producer Bonded Fibre Fabric, Bridgwater, U.K., the nonwoven subsidiary of Lamont Holdings PLC, recently completed a 1.6 million [pounds] improvement plan to its chemical bonding lines and conversion facilities. The investment was carried out in spite of a slow general economy to enable the company to continue to meet its customers' expectations. The major portion of the improvements took place on the company's chemical bonding line, which produces all-purpose, reusable, dry-wipe cleaning cloths. With improvements in the random-lay effect, greater multi-directional strength is possible when the web is chemically bonded to a parallel laid carrier web. A BFF-designed variable roller system completes the bonding process.

In addition, the assembly, collation, packing and dispatch areas of the Conversion Department are now part of a total clean room environment. Additional equipment has also been added to existing packaging lines.

In other BFF news, the company has purchased a share in Hycare Hygiene Products, Wirral, U.K., a health care products firm that specializes in commercial and industrial wet and dry wipe systems. The purchase is part of the BFF's plans to expand its industrial wet wipe business to complement existing consumer operations.
