Bond University Relies on Ciprico Expertise for SAN Installation.Business Editors and High-Tech Writers MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 21, 2000 Ciprico Inc. (NASDAQ NASDAQ in full National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotations U.S. market for over-the-counter securities. Established in 1971 by the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD), NASDAQ is an automated quotation system that reports on : CPCI See CompactPCI. ) announced that they have installed a Fibre Channel Storage Area Network (SAN) solution at Australia's Bond University in the campus' Non-linear Student Lab. The university is relying on Ciprico's high-performance FibreSTORE disk array as the central shared storage in the SAN environment to provide students with easier accessibility to files created for projects in film and video classes. Bond University is a small private university which found themselves under data storage limitations with the increasing number of students enrolling in their film and video program. This increase resulted in the production of larger file sizes, the requirement for storage of massive amounts of data and the need to access the files from any workstation in the lab at anytime. They needed a solution that would allow sharing of visual files from the same storage device, as well as a solution that provided the performance, capability and scalability to handle increasing demands. "Ciprico was the only vendor we spoke with that said not only could they make this work, but they had successfully done this sort of thing in the past," said David Walker David Walker may refer to:
"We were very excited about the opportunity to help Bond University solve their increasing demand for data storage with a total SAN solution," noted Michael Joseph, Ciprico's director of networked storage. "Our years of experience working with film and video applications coupled with our expertise in designing and installing SAN environments, made this a great partnership for both Bond University and Ciprico." The Ciprico SAN solution was specifically designed for editing and post-production work. The entire SAN configuration was provided by Ciprico and included a FibreSTORE Disk Array with nine 50 GB drives (striped as one large drive), a 16 port Brocade brocade (brōkād`), fabric, originally silk, generally reputed to have been developed to a high state of perfection in the 16th and 17th cent. in France, Italy, and Spain. Ciprico's FibreSTORE Disk Array, the central storage in this SAN solution, offers the performance, reliability, availability and servicing features demanded by today's most sophisticated computing applications. This storage system can handle any combination of drives in a single enclosure from four drives up to nine. "All components must not only be compatible, but function well together, even in a heterogeneous environment Using hardware and system software from different vendors. Organizations often use computers, operating systems and databases from a variety of vendors. Contrast with homogeneous environment. ."
