, Bon Secours Health System Inc. and Carolinas HealthCare System Carolinas Healthcare System is a hospital network located throughout North and South Carolina. About 90% of the hospitals affiliated with the system are located within a 75 mile radius of Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC.  have completed a significant step in their effort to form a new not-for-profit healthcare system which will be the most comprehensive community-based integrated healthcare delivery system headquartered in the Lowcountry of South Carolina.

The memorandum of understanding was signed on Thursday, Aug. 28.

Carolinas HealthCare System, which currently has a management contract with Roper, will also have a founding membership interest in the new not-for-profit company, and will manage the new system.

The new system will be one of the largest an most diverse healthcare organizations in the Lowcountry. As currently configured, the new system will include almost 700 licensed beds, and employ approximately 4,000.

The parties will now begin immediate work on a definitive agreement. Once that is completed, the new system will be subject to regulatory approvals and final approval of the Boards of the Medical Society of South Carolina, Bon Secours Health System, Inc., St. Francis, Roper CareAlliance, Carolinas HealthCare System and certain of their respective subsidiary Boards.
