Bombardier receives commuter coaches option order from NJ Transit.

, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Aug. 12, 1996--Bombardier Transit Corporation, a subsidiary of Bombardier Inc., today was given an order by the New Jersey Transit The New Jersey Transit Corporation (NJ Transit) is a statewide public transportation system serving the state of New Jersey, and Orange and Rockland counties in New York. It operates bus, light rail, and commuter rail services throughout the state, notably connecting to major  Corporation (NJ TRANSIT) for the manufacture and supply of 15 additional Comet IV push-pull commuter coaches.

 technologically advanced Comet IV push-pull commuter coaches incorporate a combination of advanced safety features, enhanced passenger communications systems and attractive interiors. The order, valued at approximately $14.2 million, represents the third and last lot of an option for 55 coaches. This option is held by NJ TRANSIT under a contract which was signed in January 1995 and involved the initial supply of 40 vehicles.

The 15 additional coaches will be manufactured by Bombardier at its Barre, Vermont and La Pocatiere, Quebec facilities. Deliveries are expected to begin in April 1997.

Bombardier has been a supplier of NJ TRANSIT since the early 1980s. With the delivery of the new order, the total of commuter coaches supplied to this transportation corporation will reach 308 units. The new Comet IV car is an improved version of the Comet III which was ordered from Bombardier by NJ TRANSIT in 1989.
