Bombardier receives commuter car order from Metro-North Railroad.


PLATTSBURGH, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 27, 1996--Bombardier Corp., a subsidiary of Montreal-based Bombardier Inc., today was awarded an order by MTA (1) (Message Transfer Agent or Mail Transfer Agent) The store and forward part of a messaging system. See messaging system.

The Metro-North Commuter Railroad Company, or MTA Metro-North Railroad, or, more commonly, Metro-North

The order, valued at approximately 16 million U.S. dollars, represents the exercise of an option held by Metro-North Railroad under a contract which was signed in September 1994. It raises the total value of the original contract to about 59 million U.S. dollars.

The vehicles, which feature central doors to facilitate passenger boarding and wheelchair accessibility, will be manufactured by Bombardier's Mass Transit mass transit, public transportation systems designed to move large numbers of passengers. Types and Advantages


Mass transit refers to municipal or regional public shared transportation, such as buses, streetcars, and ferries, open to all on a

Bombardier became a supplier of Metro-North Railroad in 1981. Delivery of the new order will bring to 155 the number of commuter cars Commuter Cars is a Spokane, Washington based company founded by Rick Woodbury and his son Bryan. They are beginning production of the first of their line of ultra-narrow electric sports cars, the Tango T600.  supplied by Bombardier to this authority.
