) in Switzerland for the supply of 21 low-floor trams type Cityrunner. The contract is valued at approximately $90 million Cdn (57 million Euros). The delivery of the vehicles is scheduled to take place between mid of 2004 and mid of 2005. The contract includes an option for 17 additional vehicles.

The Cityrunner for Geneva is based on a proven technology which features 100% low-floor interior and conventional wheel set bogies. Similar vehicles are in successful revenue service in the cities of Linz (Austria), Lodz (Poland) and have been recently ordered by the city of Eskisehir (Turkey). The Cityrunner will be developed and manufactured by Bombardier Transportation at its Vienna (Austria) and Villeneuve (Switzerland) facilities. Propulsion for the vehicle will be supplied by Bombardier Transportation's site in Mannheim (Germany).

"This order from TPG strengthens Bombardier's presence in Switzerland, a country with a strong rail and tram tradition. The Cityrunner offers innovative design, state-of-the-art technology and increased passenger comfort for a city of high international standard like Geneva," said Walter Grawenhoff, President, Light Rail Vehicles, Bombardier Transportation.

The 42-meter long and 2.3-meter wide vehicles manufactured for Geneva can be operated bi-directionally. They offer a total capacity for 243 passengers (72 seated, 171 standees). A sliding step at the double doors allows easy access onto the vehicle. The air-conditioned Cityrunner trams also feature an on-board video surveillance system to ensure passenger security.
