Appleton, Wisconsin-based Air Wisconsin selected the Canadair Regional Jet for several reasons, said Geoff Crowley, president of the airline.

"The Canadair Regional Jet Series 200LR's 'hot and high' range and payload capabilities will allow us to serve other high-altitude airports on our Denver-based route system without suffering loss of payload," said Mr. Crowley. "At the same time, we will be able to extend our market reach beyond the 1,000 miles currently possible with our 88-seat jets to 1,300 or 1,400 miles.

"In addition," he added, "the 50-seat capacity of the CRJ fills the gap between our current 32-seat turboprops and 88-seat jets. This will allow us to be more efficient in matching capacity to demand."

Air Wisconsin currently operates 18 BAe 146 jets, and through its subsidiary Mountain Air Express, 10 Dornier 328 turboprops feeding United at its Denver and Chicago hubs.

"Air Wisconsin's selection of the Canadair Regional Jet reaffirms the CRJ as the 50-seat jet of choice among United Express carriers," said Robert D. Gillespie, president of Bombardier Aerospace, Regional Aircraft. "We are delighted that Air Wisconsin will join Atlantic Coast Airlines Atlantic Coast Airlines (IATA: DH, ICAO: BLR, and Callsign: Blue Ridge) was an airline based in the United States owned by Atlantic Coast Holdings, Inc.. It operated as United Express for United Airlines and Delta Connection for Delta Air Lines.  in providing United Express passengers with the superb level of comfort and amenities that the CRJ provides."

The Air Wisconsin acquisition increases the number of Canadair Regional Jet Series 100, 200 and 700 aircraft on firm order to 376, of which 241 have been delivered.
