Bombardier Receives Order for 34 Commuter Rail Cars From the Metropolitan Transportation Authority/Long Island Rail Road.


NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--October 28, 1999--

Bombardier Transportation Bombardier Transportation is the rail equipment division of the Bombardier group. Bombardier Transportation is the world’s largest company in the rail equipment manufacturing and servicing industry. Its headquarters are in Berlin.  has been awarded a US $70 million order by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority/Long Island Rail Road (LIRR LIRR Long Island Rail Road (New York) ) for the supply of 34 electrical multiple unit (EMU) commuter rail cars.

This order represents the exercise of an option included in the contract awarded on May 24, 1999 for the supply of 192 electrical multiple unit commuter cars Commuter Cars is a Spokane, Washington based company founded by Rick Woodbury and his son Bryan. They are beginning production of the first of their line of ultra-narrow electric sports cars, the Tango T600.  and options for 808 additional cars. The exercise of this option brings the total value of the contract to US $515 million. The contract calls for the design, manufacture and delivery of new M-7 commuter cars to begin replacement of the electric commuter car fleets for both MTA (1) (Message Transfer Agent or Mail Transfer Agent) The store and forward part of a messaging system.
