Bombardier Receives 28 Bi-level Commuter Car Order for Southern California.


NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 5, 1999--

The 28 coach cars will be manufactured by Bombardier Transportation at its Barre, Vermont and Thunder Bay, Ontario plants. Deliveries are expected to begin in January 2001 and will be spread over a five-month period. This order represents the exercise of options for several transit agencies included in a contract awarded in June 1998 by the Central Puget Sound Regional Transit Authority Regional Transit Authority may refer to:

Pointing out that Bombardier had already delivered 119 Metrolink units to the SCRRA, the President of Bombardier Transportation's US division, Peter E. Stangl said, "We are pleased to have been chosen to supply a new series of our bi-level equipment to this important southern California transportation authority, and thus have the opportunity to strengthen the good business relationship we have already established with SCRRA."

Bombardier is also responsible for maintaining the commuter rail fleet of 33 locomotives and the 119 bi-level commuter cars that service the greater Los Angeles area The Greater Los Angeles Area, or the Southland, is the agglomeration of urbanized area around the city of Los Angeles, California, United States. The bi-level commuter cars that Bombardier will deliver to the SCRRA are designed to accommodate 138 seated and up to 160 standing riders each. They are among the world's largest commuter rail coaches, with an arrangement of two full decks and intermediate end decks, which permit higher ceilings and better seating. The low-level platform doors allow full carloads of passengers on or off the coaches within 90 seconds and minimize boarding congestion The condition of a network when there is not enough bandwidth to support the current traffic load.
