Bombardier Places First Q300 With Australia's Qantas Airways.

The aircraft, the first 50-seat turboprop in Australian regional airline service, will enter revenue service in March 2000, joining the six 36-seat Dash 8(R) Series 100 and Q200* aircraft already in the Sunstate fleet.

Sunstate will utilize its new aircraft between Cairns/Horn Island and Townsville/Cairns.

With the inclusion of Melbourne, Sunstate's route network along Australia's east coast will be longer than the distance between Gander Gander, town (1991 pop. 10,339), NE Newfoundland, N.L., Canada. Gander's airport, an important base in World War II, is a hub for international flights; it also attracts many refugees. It was the site of a Dec. , Newfoundland, and London, England, and the longest turboprop route network in the world.

Delivery of the Sunstate Q300 will increase to 37 the number of Q Series Dash 8 aircraft with Australian carriers.
