Phase I of the contract, completed in July of 2001, comprised the design and engineering aspects of the automated system. Phase II is valued at approximately Cdn$150 million (108 million euros) and includes the supply of 19 vehicles and all related electrical and mechanical systems for the 2-km line. Delivery of the vehicles is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2003.

The fully automated system will connect the new terminal building with its satellite. Bombardier Transportation will be responsible for supplying the fleet of CX-100 vehicles, automatic train control and power distribution systems, station doors for two stations, switches and maintenance facilities for the project.

The underground system is scheduled to open in 2004.

"Phase II of the Barajas Airport project is very significant for us as it allows us to continue our relationship with AENA," said William Spurr, President of Total Transit Systems, Bombardier Transportation. "This is our first people mover system in Spain and this contract represents a notable addition to our international customer base."

The CX-100 vehicle, the latest generation of the C-100 vehicle, is currently being delivered to the San Francisco and Hartsfield International Airports, USA, and George Bush Intercontinental Airport George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IATA: IAH, ICAO: KIAH, FAA LID: IAH)[2] is an international airport in the city of Houston, Texas, United States serving the Greater Houston area.  in Houston, USA.
