 after it was found by a member of the public on land near a farm.

The bomb squad from Catterick Garrison Coordinates:  Catterick Garrison is a major Army base located in Northern England. It is the largest British Army garrison in the world with a population of around 12,000, plus a large temporary population of soldiers, and is larger than its older , North Yorkshire, were called in by police after the strangelooking machine was found on East Farm, Guide Post, near Choppington, Northumberland.

After two hours of carefully investigating the device, the bomb disposal crew confirmed it was a bat-monitoring machine and not explosives.

According to police the machine had been set up in the field by an environmental group monitoring the bat population. A Northumbria Police spokeswoman said: "Following investigations police identified it as a batmonitoring device."
