Bollywood Scene: Star-crossed teenagers.

Byline: By Omar Ahmed

KYON KI (12A) brings together two heavyweights of modern Indian cinema for the first time - Kareena Kapoor and Salman Khan.

Salman has enjoyed endless successes with Kareena's sister Karishma, now busy being a full time wife, so can the new Khan-Kapoor collaboration be as effective?

Directed by the talented Priyandearshan, the story tells the love story of Anand, played by Khan, who falls head over heals over Maya, played by Rimmi Sen.

Both of them have the same sparkle in the eyes as two star-crossed teenagers, but cruelly fate intervenes, and their love suddenly comes to a sudden halt.

Whilst celebrating their engagement, known prankster Anand throws Maya into a swimming pool - but she cannot swim and dies as a result.

The guilt, the shame, the loss of his love, destroys Khan, and eventually hospitalises him.

At first Dr Tanvi tries to implement her father's rigours and strict hospital regime to treat insane patients, but then has a sudden change of heart, and eventually falls in love with Anand.

Salman Khan's recent performance have been quite solid, with the comedy No Entry to his credit, so no wonder Khan delivers once again, and firmly cements his reputation as a member of the elite Bollywood club.

The storyline and screenplay are the major flaws of this film but the performance from the other stars are also below par.
