The inventor, 68 - best known for his failed C5 car - split with Angie 11 years ago but won her back with a pounds 35,000 diamond ring.

A close friend revealed: "Sir Clive never stopped loving Angie.

"He can't believe that after all these years she has finally agreed to become his wife.

"Angie adores Sir Clive and he's the only man she feels she can trust."

They met when single mum Angie, 32, was a dancer at Stringfellows nightclub in London.

But they split in October 1998, three months after businessman Mark Thornton - the father of her son - claimed they had a fling.

Dad-of-three Clive remained friends with Angie and six years ago proposed.

Angie owns two homes but has moved into Sir Clive's pounds 5million flat overlooking Trafalgar Square.

The pal went on: "She is overjoyed at the prospect of becoming Lady Sinclair and is not at all concerned about the age gap."

Sir Clive is also brilliant with Angie's son Marcus, now 11. He is best known for inventing the C5, a batterypowered car that was probably his greatest commercial flop.

The keen poker player was also the brains behind the ZX80, the UK's first home computer for under pounds 100.
