Boeing and the U.S. Army Award Security Contract to Cylink Corporation.

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 8, 1996--Cylink Corporation (Nasdaq:CYLK), the leading developer and supplier of network security and management since 1984, today announced it has been chosen by Boeing Information Services, Inc., and the U.S. Army to provide security for the upgrade of the U.S. Army Reserve Component Automation System (RCAS). This five-year contract was awarded after extensive laboratory evaluation and testing of competitive products.

Boeing and the U.S. Army will use Cylink's SecureAccess Product Family for protecting communications between offices, headquarters and remote users in the U.S. Army Reserve network. RCAS will use the SecurePocket Traveler hardware encryptor, a small device that connects between the modem and a protected host server, and SecureTraveler for Windows, a security client software for portable and personal computers. SecurePocket Travelers are projected to be installed at the rate of 300 units per month, and quantities are expected to exceed 22,000 over a five year implementation period.

The SecureAccess system provides privacy, data integrity, access control and authentication of users, using DES for data encryption, digital signatures, Diffie-Hellman public key cryptography and X.509 certificates. It is the most manageable security system available for the quantities of users that the RCAS will deploy. The products are easy to install, and work transparently (in the background), securing on-line transfer of data entirely and automatically.
