Boeing Announces 717 Line, Aviation Week Reports.


NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 19, 1998--Boeing says it will develop smaller and larger versions of its 717, formerly known as the MD-95, to create a 717-based family if demand warrants, according to according to

 Sellige, Boeing's product marketing director for the new aircraft. Noting that the company has 55 firm orders for the 717 and options for 50 more, Sellige said initial market demand for the 100-seat aircraft is estimated at 600, rising to 2,500 over the next 10 years. Sellige said about 30 carriers have expressed an interest in the 717.
