THE SKELETON found in a shallow grave on a beach two months ago was IRA victim Jean McConville Jean McConville was a Belfast-born mother of 10 who was abducted from her home and killed by the Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA) in or around Christmas of 1972. Secret burial , Gardai confirmed last night.
A senior officer phoned Mrs McConville's family to say they could finally arrange to bury their mother - 31 years after she was killed.
The mother-of-10's body was discovered last August on Shelling Hill beach near Carlingford, Co Louth.
A Garda spokeswoman said last night: "We can confirm from DNA DNA: see nucleic acid.

One of two types of nucleic acid (the other is RNA); a complex organic compound found in all living cells and many viruses. It is the chemical substance of genes. tests that it is Jean McConville's body."

Jean's daughter Jean McKendry, 46, said: "This news was meant to be a relief and in a way of course it is.
Jean's son Michael hit out at the IRA yesterday saying: "They murdered her for nothing and then tried to smear her.
"I want them to apologise for what they did."
