GRANDAD Tom Boden doesn't do Mr Universe any more - but if he did, his would probably be the best in the world.

(With apologies to the Carlsberg advert!) At the age of 65, Tom, pictured, has more muscle power than your average thirtysomething gym addict.

It's more than half a lifetime since he stripped off for the world's top bodybuilders contest to compete against the likes of the future Incredible Hulk and Darth Vader.

But it's his poster boy claim to fame I love best.

As a kid, I gazed out from the window of my double-deck bus at billboards advertising Hartlepool's Strongarm beer.

More Strength to Your Elbow, said the catchy phrase beneath a body honed to perfection on Teesside steel - and a fair few sups of Cameron's.

Now I know it was Tom's terrific torso.

A long 37 years later putting a name to the smiling Boro face and his magnificent body is a real turn-up for the book.
