Boca Research teams with Imaging Systems Synergies; exclusive hardware provider for unique local network service provider.

NORTH MIAMI BEACH, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 26, 1996--Imaging Systems Synergies Inc. (ISS) headquartered in South Florida, today announced the inception of Kangaroo, a new information services concept targeted at providing community-oriented information.

In addition, it announced that Boca Research (NASDAQ:BOCI) has been selected as a primary equipment provider for Kangaroo. Though terms of the agreement were not disclosed, ISS said that provisioning of Kangaroo's first site has been completed. ISS is working with Boca on the rollout of additional Kangaroo nodes around the country.

We have used a number of advanced technologies in creating this service, but make them transparent to the user with a very simple-to-use software package. The Kangaroo service is a unique approach to providing highly valuable information to the average user because the information it provides is specifically community-oriented. Access to basic services is available free of charge to all citizens in the community service area -- all that is required is a PC with a modem and the Kangaroo user software, which is also provided free of charge.

Implementing the Kangaroo service makes use of a number of state-of-the-art technologies. Since much of the information will be image-oriented, advanced image compression technology developed by Kangaroo's founders will be used to dramatically shorten the transmission time to the user. Advanced client-server technology is used in the design of the network to minimize the equipment requirements at the central node sites. As additional sites come on-line, Kangaroo will quickly become a network of interconnected communities throughout the U.S. VSAT satellite technology is used at the node sites to interconnect the Kangaroo communities to other important information services. And, the Internet itself is used as part of the backbone interconnection between all of the Kangaroo nodes. A user in one Kangaroo community can easily find information about events in another Kangaroo community -- using the same end-user software, and all for the price of a local call.

In addition to the basic Kangaroo services, Kangaroo will also offer other advanced services. These will include a variety of unique commercial services, public safety services, and will act as an agent in coordinating a variety of not-for-profit activities that make use of ISS' proprietary technologies.

As part of the strategic relationship, Boca Research and Kangaroo will collaborate on development of new products and features for the Kangaroo service, as well as other new services being developed by Kangaroo. Additional potential elements of the Boca/Kangaroo relationship include Boca's use outside the U.S. of Kangaroo-developed technologies. Boca also has the option to provide equity financing to Kangaroo/ISS on an as needed basis.
