Boca Research Signs Exclusive Bundling Agreement With Galacticomm Technologies; Boca to Showcase Cast-a-Vision at Retail Vision.

BOCA RATON, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--August 27, 1997--Boca Research, Inc. (Nasdaq:BOCI) signed an agreement today with Galacticomm Technologies, a Ft. Lauderdale, Florida-based software developer. Under the agreement, Galacticomm is granting Boca an exclusive software license for its new high-end Internet broadcasting software that allows live video, audio or any documents which can be displayed on a PC monitor to be broadcast over the Internet. Boca's Cast-a-Vision will be bundled with its videoconferencing products and selected modems. The software will also be sold at retail under the Boca Research brand name.

Using Cast-a-Vision is very simple. If a family is videotaping a birthday party with a home camcorder and has a PC with video capture capability, Cast-a-Vision will enable them to broadcast the birthday party to Boca's host site at www.bocaplace.com. A far-away aunt and uncle who cannot attend the party can simply go online to the Boca site and view the live party for free. The aunt and uncle do not need the software or videoconferencing hardware to view the party -- they only need Netscape Navigator or MicroSoft Internet Explorer v4 final release. Additionally, the parents have the option of password-protecting the broadcast for privacy, and relatives can send and receive chat messages while the party is broadcasting live.

"What makes this product unique is that it is the only software package allowing end users to broadcast images and documents live over the Internet from their PC," explained Tony Zalenski, Boca's President and Chief Executive Officer. "If a day care center has Cast-a-Vision installed on a PC, several parents can simultaneously go online and view their children playing, napping, or learning. Or, if someone wants to purchase a puppy from an out-of-state kennel and the kennel has Cast-a-Vision, the customer would not need to make a blind purchase; the kennel could either broadcast a photo or a live video of the puppy. The possibilities for this product are endless."

A PC running Windows 95 or NT can support Cast-a-Vision. The software will feature a screen capture utility enabling the end user to broadcast any part of a computer screen, such as a document or spreadsheet, as it is being created. Other features include Internet chat, caller blocking, caller-ID and password authorization for secure broadcasts. And if the PC has a video capture card, the broadcast source can be derived from a VCR, camcorder, laser disk, PC camera or digital camera output.

Boca will showcase Cast-a-Vision at Retail Vision on September 3 at the Hyatt Regency in San Diego, California.

Boca will bundle Cast-a-Vision with its Video Phone Kit, Video Phone Classic and Video Phone Elite. The software will also be sold as a stand-alone product through retail, making it Boca's second software offering. Boca will bundle a scaled-down version of the software with its 33.6 and 56 Kbps modems. The scaled-down version will only have the screen capture feature which enables the end user to broadcast any image that can be seen on a PC monitor.

The software will be available in mid-September 1997.
