Tony Zalenski, Boca's President and Chief Executive Officer, commented, "We designed the Video Communications Suite with the end user in mind. We wanted it to be fast, easy-to-use, feature-rich and cost-effectively priced. By combining a high-end 56K modem and a digital camera, we are offering the end user the most complete, low-cost videoconferencing solution available on the market today."

Mr. Zalenski continued, "This product should be very attractive to end users who plan to upgrade to a 56K modem and add videoconferencing to their PC. Our product provides this capability at a price point of only $40 more than some of our competitors' current 56K modems."

Commenting on Boca's new product, Chris Buffum, Boca's Senior Vice President of Channel Sales and Marketing, said, "This product is ideal for family and friends who want to be together for the holidays but live too far away from one another to visit in person. The Video Communications Suite gives these people the opportunity to visit with each other at a nominal cost."

The Boca Video Communications Suite has an estimated street price of $239 and will be available in mid-September. Boca will showcase its Video Communications Suite at Retail Vision this week at the Hyatt Regency in San Diego, California “San Diego” redirects here. For other uses, see San Diego (disambiguation).

DIGITAL CAMERA AND 56K MODEM

The Suite comes with a Rockwell-based digital camera which allows for high-quality videoconferencing resolution. In addition, the digital camera plugs directly into the PC which eliminates the need for an additional power adapter An external power supply for laptop computers and just about every portable or semi-portable electronic device on the market. Also called an "AC adapter," it contains a rectifier to convert AC current to DC and a transformer to convert voltage from 120 down to 9, 12, 15 or whatever is  or cables.

The Boca 56K Internet Modem with speakerphone has a built-in video capture chip, also developed by Rockwell, which eliminates the need for a separate video capture card See video capture board. . As a result, the PC can offer an additional card slot A socket for inserting a printed circuit board or a PC Card (CardBus card). See PC Card.  for future add-ons. Furthermore, Boca has guaranteed all Boca 56K end users a free software upgrade to the 56K technology standard once it is approved by the International Telecommunications Union See ITU.

BOCA'S CAST-A-VISION

The Boca Video Communications Suite will include Boca's latest software product, Cast-a-Vision, which allows video and audio to be broadcast live over the Internet. The software also features a screen capture capability which enables the end user to broadcast any part of a computer screen, such as a document or spreadsheet, as it is being created. Other features include Internet chat, caller blocking, caller-ID and password authorization for secure broadcasts. And since the Boca Video Communications Suite has a video capture card, the broadcast source can be derived from a VCR VCR: see videocassette recorder.

VOCALTEC'S WHITEBOARDING, TEXT CHAT, & FULL-DUPLEX AUDIO

Another key feature of Boca Video Communications Suite is VocalTec's Internet Phone which features whiteboarding and conferencing software, which allows conference participants to simultaneously create and manipulate shared documents, photos and drawings displayed on their PC monitors. VocalTec's text chat feature is also included, enabling end users to talk to one another using typed messages. The Boca Video Communications Suite will also utilize VocalTec's full-duplex audio utility, allowing the video and audio to be transmitted at the same time. These features provide business professionals, for example, the ability to consult with one another, share and correct data, and subsequently make real-time business decisions.

Also included in Boca's Video Communications Suite is Stefra's Video Control featuring a video capture utility that provides end users with the ability to capture live video and photo images during the video conference which can then be stored on the PC. In addition, end users will be able to edit the video or image by creating a frame around it, deleting selected areas of a video clip A short video presentation. , or adding the captured image to a desktop publication. Both these features were developed for business professionals to enhance their presentations and reports and for families to expand on their photo album or video collection.

EASE-OF-USE

The Boca Video Communications Suite is Plug-n-Play. It sets up in minutes and does not require a power supply or video cables. The videoconferencing can take place over the Internet for the cost of a local call with VocalTec's Internet Phone. For more secure videoconferencing, the end users can have a direct, or point-to-point, videoconference using SmithMicro's VideoLink 324 software.

In order to support the Video Communications Suite, the user's system must be an IBM-compatible PC, Pentium 75MHz (MegaHertZ) One million cycles per second. It is used to measure the transmission speed of electronic devices, including channels, buses and the computer's internal clock. A one-megahertz clock (1 MHz) means some number of bits (16, 32, 64, etc.  or higher, and have 16MB RAM. The PC must also run Windows 95 and the end user must have an Internet account. In addition, a sound card, microphone and amplified speakers are needed to support the videoconferencing.
