Bobcats set for difficult defense.

Byline: Steve Mims The Register-Guard

The road to repeat keeps getting more difficult for Myrtle Point.

The top-ranked Bobcats opened the postseason Saturday with a 48-40 win over No. 7 Willamina to reach the OSAA OSAA Oregon School Activities Association
OSAA Office of the Special Adviser on Africa (United Nations body)
OSAA Ocean State Aquaculture Association
OSAA Office of the Sergeant-At-Arms (Philippines)
Class 2A girls basketball tournament, which begins this afternoon at the Pendleton Convention Center. Myrtle Point opens the tournament against No. 4 Blanchet at 3:15 p.m.

"I felt like our bracket is the toughest," Myrtle Point coach Marty Stallard said.

It is a route that the Bobcats successfully completed last season to win the state title. Myrtle Point was a bit of a surprise champion a year ago after finishing second in the Big Fir League, but after a 14-0 run through league this year, the defending champions defending champion n (SPORT) → defensor/a m/f del título

 are the favorite.

The Bobcats are 23-1, with the lone loss against Ashland, a 4A school.

Myrtle Point seniors Kaylie Towne and Erika Nay are both returning all-tournament selections and were joined by Amanda Johnston Amanda Johnston (1977 - ) is an African American poet. She was born in East St. Louis, Illinois and currently resides in Round Rock/Austin, Texas.

this season as first-team all-league selections.

Towne, a 5-foot-10 wing, was named league most valuable player after averaging 10.5 points per game. Johnston, a 5-11 junior, moved into the starting lineup For the line of action figures, see .

Blanchet (23-2) counters with 6-3 junior post Molly Crocker, who averages 12.3 points and 6.7 rebounds per game.

is also in the top bracket with Myrtle Point and Blanchet. The Cobras (22-5) open the tournament at 1:30 p.m. against No. 2 Portland Christian (25-1), which beat Central Linn 57-32 in the second round at state last year.

The Royals, who defeated Union 53-33 in the playoffs, have four players averaging in double figures, led by senior Tiara Gunstone with 17 points per game.

Central Linn has nobody averaging in double figures, but has instead relied on a balanced offense that features nine regulars in the lineup A criminal investigation technique in which the police arrange a number of individuals in a row before a witness to a crime and ask the witness to identify which, if any, of the individuals committed the crime. . Freshman Jenny Booth leads the Cobras with 9.8 points per game, while Rachelle Province is behind her at 9.3.

Point guard Jill Thornton averaged 6.0 points, 3.0 steals and 2.5 rebounds per game while earning first-team all-Trico League honors for the league champions.

The Cobras return all but one player off last year's team, which defeated Blanchet in the first round before dropping their next two games.

"It's a lot different from last year mentally when I viewed the girls as being happy just to get to state," Central Linn coach Josh Grotting said. "We are peaking now, and the last couple of games have been our best all year. They are still a little disappointed in their performance last year. I think they believe they could have done better. I think we are a better team this year, and that will help us."

Mohawk's girls open the 1A girls tournament this evening at 8:15 against No. 3 Crane (22-2) at Baker High School in Baker City. The seventh-ranked Indians (21-4) are back at state after reaching the 1A tournament last year for the first time in school history.

"I think this year we are better defensively," Mohawk coach Bart Rothenberger said. "We have better man-to-man pressure."

The Indians showed off their defense in a 33-29 win over Umpqua Valley Christian in Friday's playoffs, but Mohawk only made 8-of-49 shots from the field against the Monarchs.

Junior point guard Kelsey Bolander averages 12 points per game and was named Mountain West League most valuable player after helping the Indians win the league title at 16-0. Cheri Kisor was a unanimous all-league selection after averaging 12 points, six rebounds and five steals per game, while Anna Starkey is averaging nine points per game.
