Bob Kavner Elected to Tandem Board; Leader in telecommunications and multimedia industries.


CUPERTINO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 29, 1996--Tandem(R) Computers Incorporated announced today that Bob Kavner, a respected multimedia and telecommunications consultant, has joined the Tandem board of directors.

Tandem CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  Roel Pieper commented, "I have known Bob for a long time and am extremely pleased that he has joined the board. His experience with new media, coupled with his vision of the convergence of computing, telecommunications, and entertainment, will be invaluable to Tandem as we execute our new strategy. Kavner is a veteran of the telecommunications industry and spent 10 years at AT&T. As chief executive officer of its Multimedia Products and Services Group, he is credited with leading the telecommunications giant into the multimedia era. ) in 1994 to lead that company's entry into consulting in the new interactive media markets. While at CAA, he has served as the chief consultant for Tele-TV, a joint venture among Pacific Telesis, Nynex, and Bell Atlantic to develop the next generation of television, including interactive programming for two-way voice, data, and video networks. Kavner continues in that capacity today.

A native New Yorker, Kavner, 53, is married with four children and lives in Los Angeles.
