 prepare their boat for a traditional October celebration that involves a procession of boats to honor Raphael the Archangel archangel, in religion
archangel (ärk`ānjəl), chief angel. They are four to seven in number. Sometimes specific functions are ascribed to them. The four best known in Christian tradition are Michael, Gabriel, Raphael, and Uriel.
, often represented as a young man carrying a fish.

About 25 boats cross the Pacific coast every year during the event.

The statue at right was found inside a trunk by fishermen in 1942 after a fire in a boat.
