Board rejects truck limits; Spencer won't act on request.Byline: Kim Ring SPENCER - Unless they see compelling evidence that truck traffic on Brooks Pond Road is causing a public safety hazard, selectmen SELECTMEN. Board members said last night that they were comfortable with their decision and probably will not discuss the matter for at least a year. But Brooks Pond Road resident Dana G. Reed told selectmen he has compelling evidence that he expects gravel gravel, particles of rock, i.e., stones and pebbles, usually round in form and intermediate in size between sand grains and boulders. Mr. Reed said he believes work on the bridge will start in the spring, and when the span is repaired and capable of supporting heavy trucks, the gravel-hauling operations in the area will start to use Brooks Pond Road as a shortcut (1) In Windows, a shortcut is an icon that points to a program or data file. Close to 50 residents have signed a petition asking the board to limit the trucks on Brooks Pond Road. Still, selectmen said they based their decision on the information available to them, and said they cannot limit heavy trucks simply because residents asked them to. "I believe that we cannot legally support a heavy truck ban," said Selectman se·lect·man n. One of a board of town officers chosen annually in New England communities to manage local affairs. At a recent meeting, Mr. Adams pointed to legal action about a ban on truck traffic in Ware. That town barred trash trucks headed to the Hardwick Landfill Inc., owned by Casella Waste Systems Inc. of Vermont, from local streets. Casella is now suing the town of Ware, while Hardwick officials are considering a truck ban and anticipating a similar lawsuit if they impose regulations. Since the bridge on Brooks Pond Road has been off limits to heavy vehicles, truck traffic in the neighborhood has been minimal, Mr. Reed has said. But he wants the board to be proactive, addressing the issue before a problem arises. Mr. Reed would like selectmen to place a weight restriction on the bridge once it is completed, but that could be months away. He said he will bring more evidence of his concerns to the board and hopes they will reopen re·o·pen tr. & intr.v. re·o·pened, re·o·pen·ing, re·o·pens 1.
