Board of directors confirms strategic plan direction, elects new members: during the International Franchise Association's fall leadership meeting, the association's board of directors conducted its regular quarterly business session.

Among the highlights of the meeting as the approval of the FY 2006 budget, which is the financial structure that supports the organization's strategic long-range plan. The plan, endorsed by the board in March, provides the goals and objectives that will guide IFA's leadership and staff over the next five years.

Each element of the strategic plan--whether related to building the website, increasing distribution of Franchising World magazine, attracting greater numbers of attendees at the annual convention--enhance IFA's capability to achieve this most important of priorities. The 300-plus attendees who came to Washington, D.C. to participate in Franchise Appreciation Day 2005 helped deliver these messages and support the association's political action committee. Already, a plan has been developed to build on this year's success and bring even greater numbers of franchisors and franchisees to FAD FAD - ["FAD, A Simple and Powerful Database Language", F. Bancilon et al, Proc 13th Intl Conf on VLDB, Brighton, England, Sep 1987].  next year.

Primarily, the plan concentrates IFA's efforts in three key areas: government relations, public relations public relations, activities and policies used to create public interest in a person, idea, product, institution, or business establishment. By its nature, public relations is devoted to serving particular interests by presenting them to the public in the most  and member services. Budget resources are directly related to areas that support execution of the plan. For example, a recent amendment to the budget will provide funding for an additional Government Relations Department staff member who will coordinate fund-raising efforts Noun 1. fund-raising effort - a campaign to raise money for some cause

The IFA Nominating Committee A nominating committee is a group formed usually from inside the membership of an organization for the purpose of nominating candidates for office within the organization. It works similarly to an electoral college, the main difference being that the available candidates, either  presented a slate of candidates for election to the board of directors for three-year terms, which begin at the conclusion of the association's upcoming 46th annual convention February 25-28 in Palm Springs. Elected to the IFA board were:

Other exciting news reported during the board meeting was that the association has completed its search for new headquarters. During the Labor Day Labor Day, holiday celebrated in the United States and Canada on the first Monday in September to honor the laborer. It was inaugurated by the Knights of Labor in 1882 and made a national holiday by the U.S. Congress in 1894.  weekend, IFA staff successfully relocated to the new offices at 1501 K St., N.W., Suite 350 in downtown Washington.

This space will provide the facilities necessary to meet the objectives outlined in the strategic plan and provide staff with a professional working environment. Some reconfiguration will be necessary to make the space fit the staff structure, which should be completed by November 15.

Also approved during the session were the nominations of the winners for IFA's major awards--Entrepreneur of the Year, Hall of Fame, Ronald E. Harrison and Bonny Bonny (bŏn`ē), town, SE Nigeria, in the Niger River delta, on the Bight of Biafra.
