Board of directors confirms strategic plan direction, elects new members: during the International Franchise Association's fall leadership meeting, the association's board of directors conducted its regular quarterly business session.Among the highlights of the meeting as the approval of the FY 2006 budget, which is the financial structure that supports the organization's strategic long-range plan. The plan, endorsed by the board in March, provides the goals and objectives that will guide IFA's leadership and staff over the next five years. The 300-plus attendees who came to Washington, D.C. to participate in Franchise Appreciation Day 2005 helped deliver these messages and support the association's political action committee. Board member Dina Dwyer-Owens was elected to the position of secretary of the association and thus will become a member of the group's Executive Committee. Other exciting news reported during the board meeting was that the association has completed its search for new headquarters. During the Labor Day Labor Day, holiday celebrated in the United States and Canada on the first Monday in September to honor the laborer. It was inaugurated by the Knights of Labor in 1882 and made a national holiday by the U.S. Congress in 1894. weekend, IFA staff successfully relocated to the new offices at 1501 K St., N.W., Suite 350 in downtown Washington. This space will provide the facilities necessary to meet the objectives outlined in the strategic plan and provide staff with a professional working environment. Some reconfiguration will be necessary to make the space fit the staff structure, which should be completed by November 15. Also approved during the session were the nominations of the winners for IFA's major awards--Entrepreneur of the Year, Hall of Fame, Ronald E. Harrison and Bonny Bonny (bŏn`ē), town, SE Nigeria, in the Niger River delta, on the Bight of Biafra. In the 18th and 19th cent., Bonny was the center of a powerful trading state, and in the 19th cent. it became the leading site for slave exportation in W Africa.
