"This contract signals a major step forward in the expansion of Ontario Airport," said Daniel P. Garcia, president of the Board of Airport Commissioners. "This is the result of many meetings and much cooperation between the officials of the cities of Ontario and Los Angeles."

"The Ontario expansion project will pump millions of dollars into the regional economy," said John J. Driscoll, executive director of the Los Angeles Department of Airports. "The end result will be two new passenger terminals eight times the size of the current facility and thousands of new jobs."

In addition to the two 275,000 sq. ft. passenger terminals, the project also includes construction of roadways, parking lots, landscaping and utilities.

The new terminals will be constructed one-half mile east of the existing passenger terminal and are scheduled for completion in early 1999.

"Look for a lot of construction activity at ONT over the next three years," said Lloyd Klefstad, manager of Ontario Airport. "With the construction of the new terminals, the grade separation at Archibald Avenue, and the expansion of Airport Drive from two lanes to six, we're going to see a lot of activity at ONT. We're already talking about how to keep our 6.5 million annual passengers informed of these changes in order to keep travel delays to a minimum."
