Board of Airport Commissioners award contracts for soundproofing construction work.


LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 3, 1997--The Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  Board of Airport Commissioners awarded two contracts Tuesday to T&M Construction for soundproofing Soundproofing is any means of reducing the intensity of sound with respect to a specified source and receptor. There are several basic approaches to reducing sound: increasing the distance between source and receiver, using noise barriers to block or absorb the energy of the sound  work for the LAX Residential Soundproofing Program.

The contracts, totaling $1.6 million, cover the sound insulation modifications on 126 units in 28 multi-family buildings located near Los Angeles International Airport “LAX” redirects here. For other uses, see LAX (disambiguation).

T&M Construction was selected following an extensive outreach program aimed at acquainting contractors with the opportunities associated with the soundproofing program. The program includes 8,900 eligible residences in the Los Angeles communities of Westchester and Playa playa

Utilizing double-paned windows, solid core doors and added insulation, contractors are able to reduce the noise level by one-half in a home's interior.

Following the award contract, Los Angeles Sixth District Councilwoman Ruth Galanter, in whose district the airport is located, commented, "I'm very pleased that this program is on a fast track and that the first group of residences will be soundproofed as soon as possible."
