The process by which a person is tested and approved to practice in a specialty field, especially medicine, after successfully completing the requirements of a board of specialists in that field.

This exam will test each examinee's understanding of the Core Body of Knowledge in HCQM & Patient Safety. Examinees must satisfy specific credentialing requirements and pass the exam to achieve board certification. Through board certification, individuals demonstrate an advanced level of competency in HCQM & Patient Safety issues.

"By merging efforts with ABQAURP, PSOS can leverage the education and certification experience of ABQAURP and offer even greater support to the PSOS membership in their effort to enhance patient safety."

The newly updated Certification Exam will be offered starting in the summer of 2004. ABQAURP offers the only HCQM & Patient Safety certification process that includes an exam developed with the assistance of the prestigious National Board of Medical Examiners A public official charged with investigating all sudden, suspicious, unexplained, or unnatural deaths within the area of his or her appointed jurisdiction. A medical examiner differs from a Coroner in that a medical examiner is a physician.  (NBME NBME National Board of Medical Examiners ). The NBME assists many medical organizations in the development of their clinical board certification exams.

Current PSOS members will have the opportunity to receive all of the benefits of affiliate membership in ABQAURP, including a subscription to the peer reviewed publication, the Journal of Quality Health Care. ABQAURP also offers PSOS members the potential for professional growth through certification, education and networking opportunities.
