At 6-feet-3, 215 pounds, South Eugene junior Boseko Lokombo is often reminded he has unusual size for a high school running back.

"People always tell me I should be a power runner," he said, "but I like juking and moving. That's my style."

Burly power runners don't make the cut on YouTube. Lokombo's style has attracted more than 2,600 hits on the Web site.

A transfer from Vancouver, B.C., by way of the Congo, Lokombo added a few more highlights to his reel Friday night, shifting through and around the Churchill defense for 210 yards and a pair of touchdowns to lead South Eugene to a 34-17 nonleague victory at Churchill.

"It's amazing being here," said Lokombo, who moved to Eugene with his father, Leon. "It feels good to play at this level in front of a big crowd. I'm having a lot of fun."

With a new coaching staff and a new backfield, the Axemen are 4-0 entering Southwest Conference play in two weeks.

"This is where we wanted to be," first-year coach Travis Johnson said. "This is a huge game for us. I can't be more proud of my staff and the kids."

Churchill (2-1) led 14-0 late in the second quarter when South quarterback Dustin Haines pulled Lokombo aside.

"Bo and I made eye contact, and I was like, 'Bo, we need to make a drive right here,' " Haines said. "Bo got the job done."

On the first play of the ensuing drive, Lokombo cut left and ran 34 yards. Five plays later, he ran 11 yards for a TD, revealing the style that he features online.

Alex Coleman leaped over two defenders and dragged his left foot in bounds to haul in a 23-yard TD pass from Haines with 38 seconds left in the half, tying in the score at 14-14 at the break.

Haines connected with Coleman again on a quick pass for a 13-yard score on the Axemen's first possession of the third quarter, and Lokombo added his second touchdown on a six-yard run on the first play of the fourth.

"Bo has great field vision," Haines said. "He always keeps his feet moving."

Haines was 13-for-18 passing for 146 yards with one interception as the Axemen totaled 382 yards.

"People downed us in the beginning," Haines said. "They didn't think we had anything. We came out strong and showed who we are. People better look out."

Churchill's Hank Turner, a transfer from South, had 103 yards on 16 carries. Quarterback Morgan Ostrander ran for a score and threw a 29-yard TD pass to Justin Hoffman.

North Eugene 42, Mazama 15: Derek Duman completed 12 of 19 passes for 136 yards and two TDs and ran five times for 75 yards and another score to lead the visiting Highlanders.

Teammate Michael Bibbie carried 17 times for 154 yards and two TDs as North ran for 293 yards and had 422 yards total offense to Mazama's 288. Tyler Vanderhoff caught eight passes for 107 yards and a TD.
